For terrariums where the plants rot in a waterlogged base, or the soil dries to dust under the glass. This is a terrarium soil mix from Sybotanica for tropical and subtropical setups: it holds moisture well without turning wet, plants root steadily into it, and it keeps them compact rather than leggy. 5L resealable bag.
A closed terrarium is a small, slow world of its own. Water circulates, condenses on the glass and falls back, so the soil underneath has to stay damp for months without souring. This mix is made for exactly that. Its natural, earthy look suits a planted, nature-like scene, and springtails and isopods, the small clean-up crew of a bioactive terrarium, take to it well. It suits paludariums too.
Made for
Tropical and subtropical terrariums and paludariums, and the plants that live in them: ferns, Fittonia, small begonias, jewel orchids, mosses and other humidity lovers.
How to use
- Start with a drainage layer of clay balls in the bottom of the glass, then add the terrarium mix on top, deep enough for the roots of your plants.
- Plant, then mist or water lightly. In a closed terrarium a little water goes a long way.
- If condensation runs heavily down the glass all day, open the lid for a while to let it dry out a little.
Good to know
- Peat-free, from Sybotanica's SYBASoil range.
- 5 litres, in a resealable bag that keeps the rest fresh for your next build.
