A ready-to-use spray for the small, sap-sucking pests that settle on plants outside the house: on the shrubs by the door, the fruit bushes, the herbs in a pot and the crops in the greenhouse. Westland Bug Guard controls aphids, whitefly, spider mites, mealybugs, scale insects and psyllids, and it can be used indoors too.
Westland makes it without pesticides. It immobilises the pests it reaches rather than poisoning them, so they don't build up resistance, and Westland describes the formula as biodegradable and harmless to bees and wildlife. There's no waiting time before you pick: wash fruit and vegetables and they're ready to eat.
How to use it
- Shake the bottle and spray the plant directly, covering both the tops and the undersides of the leaves.
- Spray at the first sign of pests, or before they arrive, and again every seven days.
- Some plants can scorch, especially in hot sun, so try a small patch first.
Good to know
Keep the spray away from ponds and streams, avoid your skin and eyes, and wash your hands afterwards. Store it where children, pets and wildlife can't reach it.
The bottle doesn't like the cold: Westland asks for it to be kept out of direct sun, between 10 and 25°C and away from frost, so over the winter it's better on a shelf indoors than in an unheated shed.
If the trouble is a white dusting on the leaves rather than insects, that's mildew, and Westland Fungus Guard is its companion. For plants that live indoors all year, Westland's smaller houseplant bug spray is made for the job.
Both of our shops have it, at Powerscourt Townhouse and on Mill Street. Online, our own drivers deliver across Dublin, and DPD takes orders to the rest of Ireland.
